Miles McAlinden - Bell, Book and Candle
statement
“The work grouped under the title Bell, Book and Candle, began with the premise,
‘what happens when a text is the content and form of a pictorial image?’
Images and texts serve different functions and appeal and communicate in
different ways.
Usually images purport to illustrate the text, yet images often confuse the
understanding of texts, as texts alter and define the meaning of images.
Images and text are quite simply perceived differently.
Images are governed by one kind of logic, or lack of it, and texts another.
When a text is the content and form of the image we are faced with the question,
‘what exactly are we looking at?’”
