‘Making art’ and ‘doing research’ are two entirely different concepts. An artist is concerned with creating something, while a researcher is concerned with proving something.
I found that oilcloth had advantages over canvas. I didn’t have to paint a motif. It had a smooth and even surface. It looked machine-made and therefore had less ‘romance’ and ‘expression’. The aim being to make ambiguous objects that thwart both the romantic and classical traditions by running them together.
